CASE STUDY – ABERDEEN

Client Brief

Having already designed and installed a kitchen for the client many years ago they entrusted us again when looking to replace their kitchen.

The previous kitchen had a traditional real wood finish with details such as a corner fridge, mantle etc.  Although there was nothing functionally wrong with the kitchen, it did not sit with the change to more modern aesthetics of the rest of the home.

This time round a much more contemporary modern look was desired and if possible an island could be incorporated as opposed to the existing peninsular.  Some casual bar stool seating along with drinks area and also somewhere to hide appliances such as toaster, coffee machine etc as a more minimal look was being sought.  Initially there was the suggestion for a wall to be removed and the client wanted to explore this option, as well as using the existing space.

Solution

Having explored the wall down option it was decided that there was no need to remove it.  The room became too long and was already limited in width along with door access to the garden and sunroom.

Everything that the client wanted to achieve was incorporated into the existing space.  A large shaped island allowed the flow of the room to work really well.  A new sliding door was added so when entering the room, you were not restricted in which direction you wanted to go.  A large tall bank incorporated a full selection of appliances including ovens, fridge freezer/ ice maker with an additional micro and warming drawer hidden on the island.  A bifold unit was built into the corner of the room allowing for worktop appliances to be hidden.  A Quooker boiling water tap helped create the minimal, clutter free look the client was after.

A bar area was position to the dining side of the room to include a wine fridge, along side a dresser unit above to store glasses, drinks etc.

Handle-less furniture in a matt grey finish complemented the stone effect doors which added texture to the design and worked along with the statement veined worktop.

Although using an existing space the kitchen has totally been transformed into a contemporary, bright and light space, enjoyed by the client and all their family.
